Tournament Levels

Pittsford Little League enters teams into local and state/national ("Williamsport") baseball tournaments at various age levels. The exact number of teams to be formed is determined by registration numbers.

The Local tournaments take place in the Monroe County area and represent low to moderate competition. Anyone who meets age and residency requirements can play in local tournaments. I.e. It is *not* required that you played in spring Little League in order to play in summer local tournament. East Rochester players are eligible for these teams. PLL may form multiple teams in the following local divisions:

  • 7-8 Local
  • 9-10 Local
  • 11-12 Local

The state/national ("Williamsport") tournaments represent the most competitive level of play for ages 9-13. Players are expected to be fully available and committed. First-round tournaments are played in Monroe County. Winners proceed as far as New York, New England, and Williamsport International Tournament (for 11/12 National). The state/national tournament schedule is controlled at the State and National levels. Players must reside in the Pittsford School District and must have played in the Spring PLL season and played in at least 60% of games. PLL may form teams in the following state/national divisions:

  • 9-10 State
  • 10-11 State
  • 11-12 National
  • 11-13 Intermediate
  • 13-14 Juniors
  • 15-16 Seniors

Registration & Fees

Registration for summer ball begins June 7th and runs through July 10th. Registration is done online by age (that is, age in the current year as of 8/31. There are separate registration forms for each age group (8U, 10U and 12U). You will be asked to provide detailed availability in your registration.

If selected for a team, the registration fee is non-refundable. The fee covers a tournament hat, shirt, two adult umpires for all games, baseballs, entry fees, insurance, and field prep costs. If a player is not selected for any of the tournament teams, the fee will be refunded. Financial assistance is available. The League may create a waitlist after a certain number of registrants in order to properly form teams. Early registration is encouraged.

Team Formation

It is the intent of the League to place registered and qualified players on a team. Evaluations may be held for certain age groups or teams. Registered players will be notified in the event of evaluations. Regular season managers and coaches will be asked to make recommendations. The selection of players will be made by the tournament committee. Selection is based on sportsmanship, skill, availability, and experience at specific positions. Once the teams are selected, tournament team managers may subsequently remove players from the team roster based upon lack of commitment or non-communicated availability (the registration form will ask for your availability). Player selection for the State and National level teams are expected to be announced within days of the end of the season -- June 15th; the local teams will be announced shortly after June 26th. Practices for state and national teams may start as soon as the week of June 10th.

Availability

We understand that families go on vacation in the month of July. It is our intent to maximize the playing experience and co-exist with family activities. The availability chart in the registration form will help with team balance and selection. All games and practices are conducted in the evenings or on weekends.

Selection of Managers and Coaches

The PLL Board of Directors selects the tournament team managers and coaches. The criteria used to select the managers: experience, dedication to PLL, past conduct relative to players, umpires, other managers, and commitment to follow the rules and regulations of PLL, as well as the National (Williamsport) Little League rules and regulations.
