We offer the following divisions and levels of play:
Pre-K Tee Ball: Pre-Kindergarten, 4-year-olds
Pre-K Tee Ball introduces players to team sports and the game of baseball/softball. At this age, there is very little difference in the educational aspects between softball and baseball. The program teaches basic rules, sportsmanship, and the value of teamwork. Batters hit off of a stationary tee – each player bats every inning, outs are not recorded, and a game score is not kept. Above all else, the focus is on fun and socialization. Every effort is made to form Pre-K Tee Ball teams based on the school players attend; team rosters are posted on the PLL site in mid-April. Pre-K Tee Ball teams meet each Saturday during the season for practice and a game (one combined session).
Teams are combined with boys and girls. Each season, the number of registrants is reviewed to identify the ability to have an all-girls Tee Ball softball division.
Kindergarten Tee Ball: Kindergarten, 5-year-olds

Rookies Softball: 6-8-year-olds
Players are introduced to pitching via coach pitch. Players will begin to learn softball style pitching – one of the many unique aspects to the game. Players will learn basic field set up and positioning, base running, and common game situations. Rookies is an instructional division – each player bats every inning, outs are not recorded, game scores are not kept and there is not a winning or losing team. Every effort is made to form teams based on the school players attend; team rosters are posted on the PLL site in mid-April. Rookies teams practice once a week and games are played on Saturday throughout the season.
Some older players (8 years old) may be more suitable for Minors level play and these players are identified through prior season play and coach review.
Minors Softball: 8-10 year-olds
Minors builds off of the Rookies program and continues to focus on fundamentals and games progressively become competitive as softball and physical skill levels increase. Player pitch from 35’ is emphasized with coach pitch back up to enhance player engagement. At this level, consistent ability to catch and throw with some accuracy is necessary. Base stealing is introduced. Parents will identify marked advancement in player and team ability through the season. Scores are kept and standings maintained within the league. Team formation is weighted toward school enrollment. Team rosters are posted on the PLL site in mid-April. Minors teams practice once a week and play 2-3 games per week throughout the season. Some 8-year-old players will be appropriate for Minors level play. These players are identified through prior season play and coach review. There is a playoff and championship game.
Majors Softball: 10-12-year olds
Majors softball is a competitive league with the most notable difference from Minors being pitching and catching. Player pitch (from 40’) throughout and the speed of the game is elevated. Dropped third strike and infield fly rule are introduced. Stealing is emphasized and stealing home allowed. Game strategy is introduced and refined. Team Managers form teams by way of a player draft. Teams are created to balance pitching, catching and maintain competitiveness. There are no try-outs for this league. School enrollment is not a consideration for team placement. Team rosters are posted on the PLL site in mid-April. Majors teams practice once a week and play two games per week throughout the season; the season concludes with playoffs and a championship. Few 10 year-old players will be appropriate for Majors. This league plays with other Little League organizations within the Rochester community; some travel outside of Pittsford for games is to be expected.
Juniors/Seniors Softball: 13-16-year olds
Juniors/Seniors softball is a highly competitive league. Player pitch (from 43’) throughout and the speed of the game is high. Team Managers form teams by way of a player draft. Teams are created to balance pitching, catching and maintain competitiveness. There are no try-outs for this league. School enrollment is not a consideration for team placement.
