EVENT: PLAYER EVALUATIONS

In order to achieve competitive balance within each player-pitch division (9U-12U), players attend a skill evaluation each year. PLL player evaluations are a low-pressure assessment of a player’s baseball skills – pitching, hitting, fielding, and running.

Evaluations will be held in the gym at Mendon High School on:

  • Saturday, February 29th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, and 
  • Sunday, March 8th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm 

Opportunity: Event Volunteer

Adult assistance is required to be on hand to help run an organized player evaluation event and ensure players safely complete each skill station. 

  • Saturday, February 29th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm; adults required: 4-5 
  • Sunday, March 8th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm; adults required: 4-5 


EVENT: ANNUAL PARADE AND OPENING DAY CEREMONIES

The PLL Annual Parade and Opening Day Ceremonies are planned for Saturday, May 2nd. The events consist of a parade through the village of Pittsford followed by a brief ceremony on Ackley Field to officially start the spring baseball and softball season.

Opportunity: Opening Day Planner

Adult assistance is required to work with the board to help plan the parade and ceremony. Planning the parade requires coordination between the PLL and the Village of Pittsford and other entities. The PLL has a project task list, all of the required email massages, completed documents for submission, etc. to be utilized by the planner. The planner will submit the prepared documents (via email) and follow-up/respond as needed.  

Estimated time requirement: 3 hours

Adult volunteers required: 1


EVENT: PICTURE DAY

Through working with Clix, the PLL provides families the opportunity to purchase professional pictures as keepsakes; the PLL also provides team sponsors with a team photo plaque as a thank you gift for their support. PLL Picture Day is planned for April 14th (Panthers travel teams) and April 25th (PLL house league teams).

Opportunity: Picture Day Planner

Adult assistance is required to work with the board and Clix to help plan Picture Day. Planning consists of being a point of contact for Clix and PLL teams to answer questions, etc.   

Estimated time requirement: 2.5 hours (in addition to attending each session)

Opportunity: Picture Day Volunteer

Adults assistance is required to be on hand to assist coaches organize their teams and help see that the event runs smoothly.

  • Tuesday, April 14th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm; adult volunteers required: 2
  • Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm; adult volunteers required: 3


EVENT: FIELD OPENING/SET-UP

Weather permitting, the Ford and Habecker Field complexes will be set up for the spring on April 4th

Opportunity: Field Opening Volunteer

Adults, college or high school students are needed to help prepare the fields for the upcoming season by taking equipment (L-screens, etc.) out of storage and to their proper location, hanging the batting cage netting, hanging sponsor banners, and some light yardwork. 

Estimated time requirement: 1.5 hours

Volunteers required: 6-8


EVENT: MLB PITCH HIT & RUN COMPETITION

The MLB Pitch Hit & Run Competition is the official youth skills competition of Major League Baseball (see: PitchHitRun.com). The PLL will host a local competition on Saturday, May 16th beginning at 4:00 pm at the Habecker Field Complex.  

Opportunity: PHR Event Organizer

Adult assistance is required to work with the board to help plan and oversee the event; this will require responding to email regarding participation, and organizing other volunteers. The PLL has a project task list and planning document for this event.

Estimated time requirement: 3 hours (in addition to attending the event)

Adult volunteers required: 1

Opportunity: PHR Event Volunteer

Adults, college or high school students are needed to attend to run each skill station, record scores and ensure the event runs safely and smoothly. 

Estimated time requirement: 2.5 hours

Volunteers required: 8-10


EVENT: MLB JR. HOME RUN DERBY

The MLB Jr. Home Run Derby is the official youth home run derby of Major League Baseball (see: JrHomeRunDerby.com). The Pittsford Panthers and PLL will host a local competition on Saturday, May 2nd beginning at 1:00 pm at the Ford Field Complex. 

Opportunity: Jr. HRD Event Volunteer

Adults, college or high school students are needed to attend the event and be on hand to work with the event organizer to record scores, retrieve balls, and ensure the event runs safely and smoothly. 

Estimated time requirement: 2.0 hours
